Menopause Remedies

If you or a loved one is suffering from menopause then you are no doubt searching for menopause remedies. Being menopausal can sometime be embarrassing for a woman so she may not share that information with the people in her life, but the important thing to remember is that every woman eventually goes through menopause, so you are not alone. The age varies for beginning menopause, the average being 51. But eventually all women will experience mood changes, hot flashes, period irregularity or any of the other symptoms and find themselves searching for help.

Menopause Remedies

The first of the menopause remedies is prescribed by a doctor and is used to treat severe menopausal symptoms and to help prevent bone loss, a serious side effect of menopause. The treatment was once called HRT, which stands for hormone replacement therapy, but is now referred to as MHT, menopausal hormone therapy. MHT helps treat menopause by decreasing vaginal symptoms, such as dryness and discomfort, slowing bone loss, reducing hot flashes and night sweats as well as also helping with mood swings. Unfortunately MHT comes with negatives as well. In some women it may increase the chances of stroke, blood clots, heart attack, gall bladder disease and breast cancer. So, using MHT can come with an awfully hefty price tag.

There are many natural remedies on the market for menopause. These menopause remedies come with lower side effects, some with none, but also the effects are greatly varied from case to case. The concept of these treatments usually is to use herbs with phytoestrogens to supplement the diminishing estrogen in a woman’s system. The most commonly suggested and utilized at home treatment is Soy. Soy has been found to treat many menopause symptoms including hot flashes, but may increase the chance of breast cancer in some patients. Other herbs that are used include wild yam, black cohosh, dong quai and valerian root. None of these have been scientifically proven to help menopause symptoms but many women do find relief when using them, with minimal side effects.

Changes to your lifestyle can be the best of the menopause remedies. Many find that just a few simple adjustments here and there can have more effect than all of the treatments listed above with nothing but positive side effects. Try to stay away from commercialized meats. They are high in saturated fats, which decreases your body’s ability to metabolize your estrogen. Also, decreases your sugar intake for the same reasons. Increase your good bacteria’s with yogurt and eat lots of food high in fiber. These will both help you metabolize your estrogen. The final life style change to make is exercise. Exercising will increase your metabolism and also reduce your chance of bone loss.
